Job Title: Employment Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal guidance on a wide range of employment matters across the global workforce, with a focus on supporting the .
- Collaborate with HR, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with labor and employment laws, mitigate risks, and foster a positive and inclusive workplace.
- Report to the Global Employment Counsel Lead and have the flexibility to work remotely within the continental United States.
- Advise on various employment law issues in the ., with a particular focus on California laws. This includes areas such as background checks, contingent workers, AI, recruiting, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), internal investigations, internal communications, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour matters, pay equity, terminations, reorganizations, redundancies, and role eliminations.
- Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries.
- Provide advice on employment aspects of special projects, such as corporate reorganizations, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A), including performing due diligence.
- Conduct training sessions for employees, managers, and the People team.
- Stay updated on employment laws and provide timely and proactive updates to stakeholders.
- Conduct audits, employment classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and manage projects with a team-oriented approach.
- Evaluate employment practices and policies.
- Draft and review employment-related agreements and templates.
- Manage outside counsel on employment matters.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree and admission to the bar in the state of residence.
- A minimum of 5 years of legal practice in employment law.
- High degree of proficiency in . employment laws, especially those in California.
- Experience as an employment litigator, representing companies in disputes.
- Experience in analyzing and providing advice on federal, state, and local wage and hour compliance.
Salary Information:
The compensation for the Employment Counsel position is determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The company uses a market-based approach to pay, categorizing . locations into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index. The salary ranges for each zone are as follows:
- Zone A: $180,000—$270,000 USD
- Zone B: $167,400—$251,200 USD
- Zone C: $158,400—$237,600 USD
- Zone D: $149,400—$224,200 USD
