Job Title: Paralegal - Trust and Estate Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
The Trust and Estate Litigation Paralegal is tasked with supporting attorneys in managing disputes related to trust, estate, and conservatorship litigation and administration matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting legal documents such as probate court petitions, judicial council forms, applications, motions, pleadings, notices of hearing, discovery requests, deposition notices, and proofs of service.
- Filing documents with government agencies and courts, including applications/motions, petitions, and other related matters.
- Assisting with court proceedings by preparing exhibits, witness lists, trial binders, and setting up courtroom logistics.
- Conducting legal research and summarizing findings for attorney review concerning pleadings, service, and requirements of California probate estates, trusts, and conservatorship/guardianship proceedings.
- Updating and maintaining calendars and departmental dockets with court filing deadlines.
- Collaborating with applicable attorney services to orchestrate and complete court filings.
- Assisting with trust and estate administrations.
- Preparing communications to clients, third-party advisors, opposing counsel, and vendors.
- Coordinating and orchestrating requests for duplicating, word processing, messenger delivery, and special mailings.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A Paralegal Certificate is necessary.
- At least five (5) years of related work experience is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) is essential.
- Familiarity with California probate court laws, procedures, and practices is crucial.
- Experience with docketing/calendaring software and procedures is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Strong organizational skills are necessary.
- The ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities is required.
- Flexibility in working hours is needed, including the ability to work flexible and/or fluctuating hours.
- The ability to handle and maintain confidential information is crucial.
- A strong sense of teamwork and support, along with the ability to build client trust, is important.
Salary Information:
Successful candidates will receive competitive total rewards packages with the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses. The target hiring range is $66,000 - $160,000. However, quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be, as base pay is dependent on market location and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the total rewards offered, which includes eligibility for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
