Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Secretary at the Guardian ad Litem Office is tasked with a range of secretarial, administrative support, and clerical duties specifically tailored to assist Attorneys within a local Guardian ad Litem Circuit office. The responsibilities include composing and typing correspondence, detailed reports, charts, and memoranda using a personal computer. The role also involves establishing and maintaining a comprehensive office filing system, preparing travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, and preparing materials for the supervisor's use. The Legal Secretary must work independently under the general supervision of the Circuit Director or Managing Attorney and exercise discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information. The position necessitates establishing various working relationships within the Guardian ad Litem Office, with state courts system personnel, vendors, judges, non-judicial officers, and the general public.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must possess a standard high school diploma or equivalent, accompanied by three years of administrative support experience, with at least one year in a position comparable to Legal Secretary or Administrative Specialist II preferred. Alternatively, graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, two-year college, or vocational school may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis. The Executive Director or designee holds the discretion to waive the required training and experience requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The position requires knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems. A comprehensive understanding of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, is essential. Proficiency in computer software applications such as Outlook, Excel, and Word is required. The ability to effectively communicate and convey information to others, respond patiently to the general public, and maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive information is crucial.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Legal Secretary position is $37, annually. As an employee of the State of Florida, benefits significantly contribute to total compensation, with 19 percent attributed to benefits. Full-time employees benefit from low insurance rates due to the State of Florida's contributions.
