Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal at the company provides professional legal support services as directed by the SVP General Counsel and/or their designee. This role involves a variety of legal-related and administrative support tasks, including:
- Conducting legal research and drafting legal and business communications.
- Preparing draft agreements and legal documents.
- Facilitating the review and revision of business documents.
- Maintaining electronic and hard copy filing systems.
- Providing administrative support with a focus on document management, filing, and corporate record keeping.
- Coordinating meetings, managing schedules, and interfacing with clients as directed.
- Performing special projects as requested.
Essential functions include:
- Organizing documents and coordinating document productions, including date-stamping, redaction, duplication, and indexing of documents.
- Setting up and maintaining files which are organized chronologically, numerically, and/or by subject matter.
- Conducting various document searches and factual research, creating and maintaining internal databases, and running searches on internal and external document databases and systems.
- Investigating facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and prepare cases.
- Preparing witness and matter materials for case preparation and organizing interview memos, digests, and other relevant documents for legal counsel review and case preparation.
- Preparing for and attending depositions, organizing exhibits, taking notes, and handling exhibits during the deposition, and digesting transcripts to summarize highlights of proceedings.
- Assisting in motion practice by pulling relevant documents, proofreading papers, organizing exhibits, and creating document indices for motion filings.
- Working with legal counsel in the preparation and filing of all court documents, creating, binding, and distributing both file and courtesy copies, and organizing briefs, exhibits, and appendices.
- Acting as a liaison among various internal departments as well as with outside agencies.
- Preparing for and attending trials, organizing exhibits, files, and all other supporting documents, coordinating trial set-up and logistics, assisting attorneys in the courtroom, and serving as liaison between trial attorneys and in-house staff.
- Keeping and monitoring legal volumes to ensure the law library is up-to-date.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and redlining agreements and other documents in preparation for attorney review.
- Managing contract flow from the legal department perspective as directed by SVP General Counsel and/or their designee.
- Recording sensitive information appropriately and maintaining confidentiality of matters.
- Initiating communication with supervisors and peers as needed, transmitting information appropriately, and collaborating with other members of the department.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED; some post-high school education such as courses in business practices and typing.
- Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years in a law firm, in-house legal department, or other office environment where the majority of the work was legal in focus.
- Required Training: Skills in computer applications, ability to operate legal database management programs, familiarity with Microsoft Office, thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling, knowledge of standard office practices and equipment, ability to type 70 words per minute, familiarity with civil rules of procedure and court scheduling practices, and ability to manage customer requests.
