Job Title: Deputy County Counsel III
Job Responsibilities:
- Confers with and advises assigned County agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and various special and school districts on legal matters pertaining to their respective powers, duties, functions, and obligations. Represents these entities in various meetings and hearings.
- Prepares written opinions and provides informal opinions on legal questions.
- Researches and drafts ordinances, contracts, agreements, resolutions, and other legal documents and reviews them for legality.
- Prepares for trials or hearings before trial and appellate courts and various administrative bodies as required. Prosecutes claims and lawsuits on behalf of the County and defends suits against the County, districts, and employees.
- Prepares and files legal documents with the court, including petitions, briefs, and appeals.
- Studies, interprets, and applies statutes, ordinances, court decisions, and legal opinions.
- Drafts proposed legislation, analyzes pending legislation, and recommends County positions on legislation.
- Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
Education and Experience Information:
- License: Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- Experience for Deputy County Counsel III: Thirty (30) months of full-time civil or criminal law work experience as an attorney.
- Note: Law Clerk, Intern, and Volunteer Attorney experience is not qualifying.
- Desired Qualifications: Legal representation of a public entity or employment in a legal office of a public agency practicing employment law is desirable.
Salary Information:

Additional Information:
- Recruitment Bonus: Newly hired employees from this recruitment may be eligible to receive bonus payments up to $3,000.
- Flexible Schedule: Attorneys may have the opportunity to work a flexible schedule after six months of employment, which may include a 9/80 schedule and/or partial remote work option.
