Job Title: Billing Team Lead
Job Responsibilities:
The Billing Team Lead at the law firm is tasked with a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of the billing department. Key duties include:
- Overseeing billing staff for an assigned region or team and providing leadership and direction.
- Coordinating workflow and monitoring performance to ensure adherence to the firm's policies and procedures.
- Assisting the Senior Billing Manager in assigning work responsibilities, ensuring quality and timely work output, resolving issues, and assessing work performance.
- Providing mentoring, training, and ongoing feedback to the billing staff.
- Managing billing workloads, schedules, overtime, and contributing to annual performance evaluations.
- Ensuring compliance with firm and department policies and addressing or resolving identified issues, escalating where necessary.
- Communicating deadlines and ensuring compliance with the month-end close process and creating new prebills for the upcoming billing cycle.
- Handling direct billing responsibilities (approximately 25% of the time) as needed to support complex cases or firm strategic initiatives.
- Overseeing billing overflow to ensure smooth operations and timely issuance of bills.
- Maintaining involvement and oversight of team members’ workloads to ensure accurate and timely billing, and keeping documentation up to date.
- Developing billing staff by fostering strong working relationships with billing attorneys and encouraging ownership of assigned billing tasks.
- Supporting e-billing protocol alongside the E-Billing Specialist to ensure timely and accurate billing in line with firm and client standards.
- Serving as a point of contact for escalated inquiries from billing attorneys and administrative staff, ensuring requests are addressed promptly.
- Liaising with and supporting finance functions outside of the Billing department.
- Assisting in developing and maintaining department training and resource materials.
- Driving performance excellence through effective communication, performance management, and employee recognition.
- Identifying opportunities for employee growth and assisting in achieving departmental goals.
- Promoting a positive, energetic culture that emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and excellence.
- Serving as a role model by exemplifying firm and department standards in daily operations.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Billing Manager.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred for this role.
- Candidates should have 4 to 6 years of related experience.
- Supervisory experience is required.
- A solid understanding of accounting concepts is necessary.
- Experience with Aderant Expert Billing and BillBlast e-billing software is preferred.
- Candidates should have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and billing rates.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, is required.
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential.
- High standards, attention to detail, effective communication, an ownership mentality, and exceptional follow-through skills are necessary.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact and build positive relationships with staff, attorneys, and clients.
- The ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities and work demands is essential.
Salary Information:
The law firm offers competitive salaries, bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, health, vision, dental, 401k, life, disability, and more. Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours worked. Compensation is determined based on the market where the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience, education, and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The salary range for this position for individuals located in Denver is to per hour. For individuals located in Chicago, San Diego, or Washington ., the salary range is to per hour.
