Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney/Agency Attorney III at the **Members Only** is tasked with a variety of responsibilities within the Hearings Division. The role involves adjudicating administrative hearings where individuals or businesses contest charges of violating city laws related to health, safety, and the environment. The attorney is responsible for assisting in the legal operations of the office, ensuring the quality and consistency of legal decisions, coordinating daily assignments for Judicial Hearing Officers, and performing legal reviews and other administrative tasks. The attorney must maintain procedures to ensure cases are heard and decisions rendered in a timely manner, manage productivity and staffing needs through databases or other systems, and handle special assignments and projects, including oral and written presentations. Additionally, the role requires conveying agency policy to the public accurately, ensuring cooperative interaction between administrative and legal personnel, and acting as a legal advisor to the office’s administrative staff.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be admitted to the New York State Bar and have one year of satisfactory legal experience in the United States subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne. Incumbents must maintain good standing as a member of the New York State Bar throughout their employment. For Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience after admission to the bar in relevant areas of law. For AL III, candidates need two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience after bar admission in relevant areas.

Preferred Skills:
Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent writing, legal research, and analytical skills, and strong organizational, management, and training skills. Supervisory experience is preferred, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $89, to $103,.
