Job Title: Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform administrative work in legal support for the office of the organization Criminal Public Defender's.
- Assist in researching and preparing legal documents.
- Enter data into automated legal systems, verify data, and process data.
- Perform routine data analysis and address paralegal questions.
- Maintain legal documents and records.
- Prepare affidavits, letters, memos, agenda items requests, and complaint responses.
- Manage caseload from intake to closing, including tracking, updating, and entering data for reporting to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission.
- Manage calendaring system and statutory case time frames and deadlines.
- Manage complex discovery deadlines.
- Draft subpoenas, subpoena duces tecums, settlement offers, and arrange for service of witnesses, law enforcement, caseworkers, investigators, and experts.
- Coordinate with court coordinators and caseworkers to schedule and calendar hearings, bench trials, and jury trials.
- Assist with docket days, including taking case notes during docket and tracking orders.
- Ensure services delivered meet quality and timeliness standards.
- Process computerized information records systems with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Manage records, including medical, psychological, and psychiatric records, and Bates log incoming records.
- Manage the calendar for the attorney workroom and assist the public in scheduling its use.
- Enter data into the legal system, review preliminary reports, verify data entry's accuracy, initiate needed corrective actions, and submit documents for review.
- Assist attorneys by reviewing, providing, and obtaining information for legal documents.
- Provide assistance and information to attorneys.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Information:
- Experience or degree in Legal Process and/or related field.
- Supplemented by one (1) year of experience performing paralegal and/or administrative support work.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Salary Information:
- Salary: $33, per year.

Additional Information:
- Under general supervision, the Paralegal provides routine legal research and document management.
- Screens, reviews, analyzes, and organizes case-related material required for court presentation and management in Civil Courts.
- Performs a variety of administrative and clerical support functions for the Criminal Public Defender or an Assistant Criminal Public Defender.
- Affects the accuracy, reliability, and acceptability of further processes and services.

- Physical Ability: Tasks require light physical effort in sedentary to light work, may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of light objects (5-10 pounds), and extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
- Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals; ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
