Arraignment Paralegal I - Organization: The Legal Aid Society - Department: Criminal Defense Practice

Salary Range: $53,295 - $81,795

Job Description:

- Work in a courthouse court part gathering client information for the attorneys
- Interact with clients and assist their families by providing case related information
- Access information from court records and assist attorneys
- Scanning and uploading criminal court files into LAS databases
- Enter and search for data on various databases
- Record case information using manual or electronic means
- Conduct criminal history and conflicts checks following established protocol
- Prepare written and electronic reports summarizing information complied
- Obtain and copy court and office files
- Assemble court files and materials for attorneys
- Liaison between attorneys and their clients
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports from various databases
- Update court calendars
- Office filing
- Create and maintain case files
- Provide general information to clients, clients’ families, vendors, and staff
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- High school diploma / GED or at least 2 years of work experience
- Proficient computer skills
- Strong interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to problem-solve and multi-task
- Position may require work in office, courtroom, and other field settings
- Knowledge of NYC public transportation and ability to commute to court locations across all 5 boroughs
