Job Title: Paralegal Supervisor (Citywide)
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal Supervisor at the organization is responsible for providing supervision, training, and oversight of Litigation Assistants and Paralegal II staff within each trial office. As a member of the trial office supervisory team, the Paralegal Supervisor supports the general management and operation of the office. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with the Director of Paralegal Services to develop standardized training, practices, and protocols across the boroughs.
- Working closely with local complex attorney supervisors, complex administrators, and borough administrators to facilitate client services.
- Providing support for the Litigation Assistants in conjunction with the Discovery Unit.
- Offering individual supervision to Litigation Assistants and Paralegal II staff.
- Creating and supporting new approaches to meet staff and client needs.
- Monitoring the work and caseloads of Paralegal II and Litigation Assistant staff.
- Assessing and assigning work to Litigation Assistants based on caseload and capacity.
- Participating in decisions regarding the allocation of paralegal resources.
- Ensuring accountability and maintenance of practice standards.
- Identifying and creating opportunities for staff development.
- Providing emergency office and case coverage.
- Initiating and coordinating special projects.
- Conducting in-service training and case consultation.
- Performing case reviews and performance evaluations.
- Participating in staffing and personnel decisions.
- Maintaining a small caseload.
- Developing and implementing procedures and policies.
- Participating in supervisory and management meetings.
- Representing the Practice at external meetings and conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
Professional Development and other duties include participating in continuous professional development and learning about forms of bias in the workplace to support an inclusive work environment.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and prior paralegal-related experience.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Paralegal Supervisor position is $75,633 to $102,203. The salary offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles. The organization offers a generous benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation, disability, and life insurance.
Higher Education and Loan Forgiveness:
The organization is a qualified employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The position allows employees to take advantage of PSLF and other state and federal loan forgiveness programs. New York residents may be eligible for assistance from New York state for loan repayments, depending on years of practice.
Work Authorization:
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for a work visa or permit. The organization is unable to sponsor employment visas or permits but will provide documentation needed for a TN visa for Canadian and Mexican citizens.
