Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to draft various legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation. Proofread documents as requested.
- Undertake additional administrative tasks as needed to support the team and ensure the law firm operates efficiently.
- Conduct legal research with guidance from attorneys and paralegals.
- Ensure proper processing of client billing using daily time records with assistance from the accounting department.
- Create both paper and electronic case files within one business day of hiring.
- Follow the case-closing checklist upon completion, manage ongoing case closings, and send out case closing emails.
- Maintain organization of client files (alphabetically for paper files) and perform weekly checks of active client files.
- File scanned paper mail to the appropriate client's paper files.
- Complete legal tasks assigned by paralegals and attorneys promptly without clerical error.
- Assist with the final submission of applications, including scheduling FedEx/USPS deliveries, creating labels, scanning, copying, and following procedural checklists for respective tasks.
- Update clients on the status of their USCIS cases as soon as updates are received.
- Scan any documents brought in by new or current clients and place them in the appropriate physical and electronic client files.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.
Education and Experience Information:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate’s degree is a plus.
- Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills.
- Must be capable of prioritizing tasks with demanding deadlines and working in a fast-paced environment.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a law firm or office environment as an administrative assistant or secretary is required.
Salary Information:
- Compensation ranges from $52,000 to $54,000 per year.
