Senior Consultant (R&D Tax Credit)
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Consultant in the field of Federal Income Tax, Research and Experimentation (R&E) Tax Credit plays a crucial role in assisting clients with the identification and claiming of R&E tax credits. This position also involves supporting the R&E Manager in defending these credits during audits conducted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state tax authorities. The job is project-based and may require spending time at client facilities, collaborating with engineers and technical personnel. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Manager in preparing client presentations for proposals, planning strategies, and generating ideas.
- Developing project work plans and scheduling associated deliverables under the guidance of the Manager.
- Conducting interviews with client engineering and technical personnel and drafting or reviewing detailed project interview reports.
- Gathering, formatting, and analyzing large volumes of accounting cost data and creating complex calculation databases using Microsoft Excel and/or Microsoft Access.
- Analyzing expenses for qualification under Section 174 and Section 41.
- Responding to client requests and corresponding with clients to meet deliverables.
- Participating in meetings with client tax department personnel.
- Preparing and reviewing R&E credit calculations and R&E deliverables.
- Collaborating with Federal Income Tax and International Tax colleagues on other tax matters as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Candidates for the Senior Consultant position are required to have a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a Juris Doctorate (or equivalent) along with two to four years of R&E tax credit experience. Essential skills include excellent organization and time management, strong communication abilities, and a willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is necessary for this role. Additionally, a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research is required.
Certificates and Licenses:
A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Senior Consultant position involves supervisory responsibilities, including the training of peers and checking work for accuracy and completeness.
Salary Information:
Compensation for the Senior Consultant position varies based on location and other factors such as qualifications and experience. The base salary hiring range for this position is as follows:
- California-based roles: $83, - $110,
- Other California-based roles: $76, - $101,
- Colorado-based roles: $73, - $96,
- Illinois-based roles: $76, - $101,
- Other Illinois-based roles: $73, - $96,
- New York-based roles: $83, - $110,
- Other New York-based roles: $70, - $92,
- Washington-based roles: $76, - $101,
