Job Title: VP Associate General Counsel, Property Management
Job Responsibilities:
This position provides a unique opportunity to offer legal counsel across a wide array of real estate matters, including leasing, property management, transactions, litigation, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in real estate law and will support a diverse portfolio of residential and commercial properties. The key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice and strategic guidance on property management operations, covering lease agreements, vendor contracts, tenant disputes, and regulatory compliance.
- Reviewing and ensuring consistent risk transfer, indemnification, and feedback for all property-level corporate contracts, including property management agreements and lease forms.
- Ensuring consistency across the portfolio for forms used at operating assets and ensuring proper authority for signatories.
- Collaborating with the General Counsel, property leadership executives, Human Resources, and ownership representatives to ensure proper communication and strategic alignment.
- Staying informed of all changes in laws applicable to the real estate industry, including fair housing, affordable housing, rent regulation, OSHA, and other relevant laws, along with their interpretations.
- Notifying applicable owner and property management executives by asset class, location, or regulatory program of changes in statutory or regulatory guidance that affects our operating property processes or redevelopment programs.
- Partnering with operations teams and the training group to ensure that front-line staff and their managers have up-to-date, comprehensive training resources to support their operations.
- Providing guidance for all property-level executives to interpret complex fair housing requests, offer alternative solutions, and ensure appropriate, timely responses.
- Advising owner executives on program layering or other compliance risks associated with proposed executions, including the potential impacts of pending legislation, regulation, or case law.
- Serving as a resource for all day-to-day property-level corporate and legal matters.
Education and Experience Information:
- A is required.
- 7-10+ years of legal experience is necessary, with a strong preference for candidates who have a mix of law firm and in-house experience in real estate law.
- A deep understanding of commercial and residential real estate transactions, leasing, property management, and landlord-tenant law is essential.
- Experience supporting a multi-state portfolio is preferred.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and abstract contracts, leases, licenses, regulatory agreements, and similar legal documents is required.
- Ability to review, interpret, and apply government regulations is necessary.
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills are essential.
- Knowledge of fair housing, zoning, ADA, and other real estate-**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. compliance matters is required; Section 8/236/LIHTC/Bond program compliance experience is a plus.
Salary Information:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $275,000 - $300,000+. In addition to a competitive base salary, candidates will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package. The actual base salary within the anticipated range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors.
