Job Title: Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal at the law firm will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys in various aspects of case management and trial preparation. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys in fact investigation, conducting witness interviews, drafting pleadings and correspondence, performing legal research, and preparing and producing documents.
- Managing databases and docketing/case management systems to ensure efficient case handling.
- Independently organizing and managing files or delegating similar tasks to a Paralegal Assistant.
- Preparing materials for depositions, hearings, trials, and related proceedings, and attending these events if necessary.
- Drafting pleadings and discovery documents.
- Coordinating the filing of pleadings/documents and arranging for service.
- Collecting and summarizing medical and other relevant records.
- Assisting with calendaring and docketing responsibilities.
- Collaborating with attorneys across multiple offices.
- Acting as a liaison between clients, colleagues, and experts to ensure timely communication and material production.
- Staying informed about developments in the Commercial Litigation practice areas and the Paralegal industry.
- Participating in internal Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions.
- Anticipating the needs of attorneys and providing proactive support.
- Serving as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant or a more junior Paralegal, as needed.
- Meeting an annual billable hour target of 1500.
- Performing other duties as required.
Education and Experience Information:
- A bachelor's degree in Legal Studies or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in Commercial Litigation is required.
- Experience with Relativity is preferred.
- At least 2 years of trial experience is preferred.
Salary Information:
Compensation for the Paralegal position is commensurate with skill and experience, and it varies based on location and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $84,000 - $112,000
- State of Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- State of Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- State of Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- State of Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- State of Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- State of New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- State of Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
These salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and dependent upon individual and firm performance.
