Job Title: Associate Project Manager II
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Project Manager II will serve as a Project Engineer in the Field Operations Unit of the Quality Assurance Department within the Bureau of Engineering Review and Support, Division of Bridges. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing construction activities at multiple sites, focusing on major bridge components such as erection, concrete and asphalt placements, embankment, subgrade and base installation, pile driving, and drilled shaft installation.
- Generating field reports to document findings and deficiencies observed during inspections, ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Reviewing design drawings and demonstrating knowledge of NYSDOT Standard Specifications.
- Verifying project and material acceptance records for compliance with NYSDOT MURK (Material Uniform Record Keeping) requirements.
- Possessing knowledge of concrete and asphalt material properties, principles of mix design, method of placement, concrete curing, and field material inspection and testing.
- Reviewing Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) around the job site and adjacent streets to ensure safety for the public and motorists.
- Participating in contractor’s progress meetings and Quality Assurance meetings.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Associate Project Manager II, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
1. One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more. Additionally, candidates must have:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in fields such as engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work as described above.
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in "1" above.
3. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to five years as described in "1" above. Credit will be given for:
- Each 30 semester credits of college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in the relevant fields.
- A Master’s degree in one of the disciplines described above.
- A Juris Doctor degree.
- A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Registered Landscape Architect.
Candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described in "1" in a supervisory capacity or have served at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project. Additionally, candidates must have two additional years of experience as described in "1" in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least two additional years as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
Preferred Skills:
- Field construction experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Salary Information:
The salary range for the Associate Project Manager II position is $84, to $123, annually.
Additional Information:
Candidates must be serving permanently in the title of Associate Project Manager, be reachable on the open-competitive list, Exam# 3110 or Exam # 9003, or be eligible under the 55-a Program. Proof of filing will be required. This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability eligible for the 55-a Program.
