Job Title: Workers' Compensation Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist Workers' Compensation attorneys by providing legal assistant support to enhance their effectiveness.
- Open and close legal files, complete budgets, draft documents, and calendar deadlines.
- Send reports to clients and save them to the document management system.
- Regularly operate routine office equipment such as telephones, computers, and printers.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, Outlook, Calendar, and Excel, proficiently.
- Handle pressure, interruptions, and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently on the telephone and via electronic communication.
- Organize and maintain documents in the law firm's document management software system.
- Apply knowledge of legal documents and terminology related to Workers’ Compensation, such as subpoenas, Affidavits of Service, and Affirmations.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with law firm policies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with filings including , appeals, rebuttals, and RFA-2.
- Draft and complete Affidavit of Service.
- Calendar placeholders for important dates and deadlines.
- Save all emails, documents, and filings in the document management system.
- Send out hearing reports, interim reports, and deposition reports.
- Open files and complete information sheets for new cases.
- Close files and maintain a closing tracker for completed cases.
- Coordinate witness preparation for hearings.
- Maintain hearing report trackers to ensure all reports are up to date.
- Assist with completing and circulating post-hearing directives.
- Assist with budgets and manage rejected invoices.
- Serve surveillance and assist with evidence cover letters.
- Release iTimekeep entries for time management.
- Provide daily reminders of deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Organize and reassign documents and emails from a large folder for better management.
Education and Experience Information:
- Associates Degree or higher is required.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Positive attitude and excellent writing and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
- Teamwork oriented and able to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation legal practice.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and principles, as well as medical and insurance claims terminology.
- Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy.
