Litigation Program Paralegal & Community Advocate
Job Responsibilities:
The Litigation Program Paralegal & Community Advocate will play a vital role in supporting the organization’s legal team. The primary responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys in daily case management tasks, including updating and maintaining case information in online databases.
- Conducting research and preparing court filings and government/agency requests.
- Conducting initial interviews with prospective clients and assisting in drafting client declarations.
- Providing general administrative support, such as processing mail, faxing, copying, answering phones, and scheduling.
- Monitoring deadlines and calendaring court hearings.
- Coordinating the Rapid Response Network (RRN) throughout Florida. This involves uniting legal service providers, community groups, and impact litigators to prepare communities for immigration raids, roundups, mass deportations, and interactions with law enforcement. This includes providing Know Your Rights Trainings, Family Safety and Preparedness Trainings, and ICE Raids KYR Trainings.
- Representing the organization in coalition meetings and community events, as well as supporting coalition work, including community outreach and organizing.
- Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of community education materials.
- Representing the organization in working group meetings, stakeholder meetings with immigration agencies, coalition partners, and the community-at-large.
- Supporting and developing partnerships with local, regional, and national partners.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Litigation Team.
Education and Experience Information:
- A BA/BS degree is preferred.
- Experience in immigration law and advocacy is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple attorneys and staff members in a fast-paced environment that values feedback.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Commitment to working alongside people from diverse cultural, educational, professional, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 is required.
- Experience working with immigrants is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- Written and verbal fluency in English is required.
- Spanish and/or Haitian Creole fluency is strongly preferred.
- Candidates who are directly impacted or have personal experience in the . immigration system are highly encouraged to apply.
- Must be willing to undergo an extensive background check, including FBI, statewide repository, and sex offender registry checks.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Litigation Program Paralegal & Community Advocate ranges from USD $46,000 to $71,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
