Job Title: Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel will be tasked with managing complex coverage and extra contractual litigation, particularly those involving high degrees of legal complexity and coordination. The individual will require specialized knowledge in General Liability and Construction Defect to safeguard the interests of the company. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing all aspects of the litigation process in representation of the company.
- Providing legal counsel and insights in collaboration with corporate law, underwriting, and claims organizations.
- Advising on policy language, new product offerings, and complex coverage interpretations.
- Assigning cases to outside counsel and evaluating their performance to maintain control over files and litigation costs.
- Developing, preparing, and implementing litigation strategies.
- Offering legal advice to the Claims and Underwriting teams.
- While the individual may attend trials, they will not serve as the attorney of record.
The role emphasizes maintaining a balance between work and personal life with flexible work options, including a hybrid working model that allows for remote work with occasional in-office attendance.
Education and Experience Information:
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience as an attorney with a focus on insurance coverage.
- Active membership in a State Bar.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Products and knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Litigation experience within the insurance industry, claims, or underwriting.
- Experience handling General Liability and Construction Defect claims.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, corporate systems, and a significant knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, claims processes, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
- Analytical skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a changing environment.
- Experience in collaborative work environments.
- Ability to effectively present information to line-of-business managers, claimants, and customers.
Salary Information:
The compensation for the Sr. Claims Coverage Counsel role is influenced by various factors, including office location, skill set, and level of experience. The proposed salary range is $121, to $199,, with eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus set at 15%.
