Paralegal/Legal Assistant Duties: Draft correspondence, fee agreements and legal with all aspects of probate and estate administration - start to finish. Preparation of probate documents with minimal direction from attorney. Maintain the calendar, deadline, and schedule for completing documents, filing the inventory, and closing the estate. Independently initiating and maintaining active correspondence with clients, financial institutions, and beneficiaries to obtain necessary information, and answer typical questions by email or phone concerning estate administration. Independently managing the client file, timeline for the matter, and managing progress of tasks for yourself, client, and attorney Preparation and transmittal of all necessary papers to transfer securities and financial accounts. Preparation and filing of claims for insurance proceeds and death benefits. Preparation of accounts in the probate court; preparation of trust accounting. Correspondence with clients, courts, financial institutions and other interested parties. Attending client meetings, documenting action items and to dos, answering questions, and advising on the estate administration process.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certificate. Should have 2+ years of professional services experience, preferably in a law firm. Experience in any of the areas is a plus: Accounting or Bookkeeping, Probate and estate and trust administration, or Asset transfers/asset coordination in connection with estate and business planning practice. Should preferably have experience or familiarity with managing legal cases from beginning to end; Understanding of different asset types; Asset collection, court filings, appraisals, accounting, and asset allocation agreements.; Estate Planning, including revocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney, retirement account and life insurance beneficiary designations, and related documents; Business Planning, including corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, and related documents.; Real property transfers, including deeds, property tax claims, and change in ownership forms; Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); and Maintenance and organization of legal files. Tracking, calendaring and follow-up skills. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
