Job Title: AGENCY ATTORNEY 02

Job Responsibilities:
The Agency Attorney at the organization, specifically within the Housing Litigation's Landlord and Tenant Division, is responsible for engaging in complex legal matters under the supervision of a Level 3 Attorney. The primary responsibilities include:

- Representing the organization in Civil Court-Housing Part, negotiating, drafting, and appearing before a judge for stipulations of settlement in non-payment, holdover, and repair cases.
- Researching and preparing non-payment and holdover cases for trial, arguing them before a Housing Court Judge, and addressing matters of legal strategy, including the advisability of presenting witnesses and the admissibility of evidence.
- Handling illegal lockout hearings, contempt, multiple petitioner, and commercial cases.
- Preparing briefs, motions, legal opinions, affidavits, memoranda, and other legal documents.
- Representing and defending the organization in repair cases initiated by residents, negotiating stipulations of settlement, arguing motions, and potentially proceeding to trial.
- Coordinating with Developments and Skilled Trades and Technical Services to ensure timely repairs.
- Appearing and representing the organization as a Judgment Creditor in Bankruptcy Court, preparing and filing motions to ensure the collection of all pre-petition and post-petition rent.
- Performing other related duties as required.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding all proceedings.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- Either one year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
- Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.

Assignment Level Requirements:
- To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
- To be assigned to Assignment Level III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Preferred Skills:
- Strong legal analysis, writing, and research skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to define and address factual and legal issues clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
- Familiarity with housing laws and regulations, particularly public housing, Section 8, and other affordable housing.
- Familiarity with multifamily housing management, building systems maintenance, and construction law.
- Familiarity with privacy and confidentiality law and regulations.
- Familiarity with environmental law and regulations.
- Administrative law, policy, or legislative background or experience.
- Ability to devise creative solutions to accomplish agency objectives.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Agency Attorney position is $95, – $100,.
