Law Firm K&L Gates is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join their Information Technology Department and lead the firm's data initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse team and make a significant impact on the firm's operations and decision-making processes.
Key Relationships:
- Report to the Director of Enterprise Application and work closely with the Global Information Technology Teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams from Business Development, Finance, HR, Reporting, and Records
- Build strong relationships with direct reports, peer managers, directors, executives, and external vendors
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with firm leadership and key stakeholders to define the need, vision, strategy, and roadmap for data initiatives
- Launch and lead a high-performing data team to support business decision capabilities
- Develop data-driven strategies to enhance operations, improve decision-making, optimize AI solutions, and boost business efficiency
- Develop and enhance the firm's data infrastructure
- Supervise the creation and maintenance of reliable data pipelines and workflows
- Ensure data governance, security, and privacy protocols are enforced
- Participate in requirements gathering process and document business requirements
- Design and implement data insight products and services
- Act as a catalyst for change and adoption by collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Drive innovation by incorporating AI and machine learning in a data-first manner
- Collaborate with elements of the firm's data function
- Effectively convey complex data science concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Act as liaison between business units and technical teams
- Serve as technical owner of solutions
- Own the data discovery process
- Design the data platform to create a unified data ecosystem
- Facilitate enforcement of data governance
- Develop automated data processing and analytics pipelines
- Exemplify principles of Enterprise Applications Team
- Participate in change control process
- Define team roles and responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and mentor a diverse data science team
- Serve as direct supervisor
- Be a champion of career advancement
- Serve on Enterprise Applications Department Management team
- Supervise daily activities of direct reports
Additional Duties:
Experience Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field
- Ability to multitask, lead, and mentor
- Excellent communication skills
- 8+ years of experience in data science or data engineering/architecture roles
- 5+ years of experience in a professional service organization
- Experience managing large-scale data projects
- Knowledge of global data handling and regulatory standards
- Familiarity with data modeling tools
- Knowledge of the legal industry
- Experience with cloud technologies
- Experience overseeing cross-functional projects
- Advanced knowledge of KCS methodology
- Industry certifications in Data Science/Engineering
- Experience collaborating with multiple departments
- Familiarity with distributed systems and organizational structures

- Ability to present ideas and lead meetings
- Ability to work with a team in different offices and time zones
- Ability to travel
