Advocate for Injured Employees (Ombudsman IV) – Midland/Odessa
Job Responsibilities
The Advocate for Injured Employees, also known as an Ombudsman, plays a critical role in assisting and educating injured employees in Texas. This position involves:
- Providing one-on-one assistance to injured employees throughout the dispute resolution process
- Answering questions related to workers' compensation claims, including medical and income benefits
- Reviewing case backgrounds and gathering relevant information, such as medical records and letters from doctors
- Reporting and referring complaints, as well as tracking and providing updates on claim status
- Assisting and preparing injured employees for mediations and/or formal hearings
- Educating employees about the workers’ compensation dispute process and relevant laws and rules
- Assisting with referrals to social services through other state agencies
- Providing support in filing claims and obtaining necessary documentation from medical professionals
- Contacting insurance carriers and medical providers to resolve disputes
- Documenting customer interactions in a computer system
- Answering general customer service inquiries
- Performing other assigned duties
Education and Experience Information
This position requires:

- Three years of full-time experience in areas such as claims management, insurance, casework, law office (paralegal/legal assistant), healthcare, social work, or workers’ compensation
Candidates who hold a current law license must surrender it upon hire. Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Preferences for this position include:
- Experience with medical terminology, rehabilitation, and disabilities/impairments
- Experience in public speaking, such as training, outreach, and community speaking
- Bilingual English and Spanish language skills (oral and written)

Salary Information
- Salary (Pay Basis): $5, Monthly
Additional Information
The position is full-time, with a standard workweek of 40 hours. It requires travel up to 25% of the time. The job is exempt from overtime status.
