Job Responsibilities:
- Draft and prepare correspondence and other written documents under attorney direction, including responses, reports, filings, pleadings, answers, motions, interrogatories, letters, and other necessary documents.
- Maintain calendar for trial and discovery deadlines.
- Schedule depositions, hearings, appointments, and any other necessary legal proceedings for attorneys.
- Organize files, including opening, closing, management, and maintenance.
- Monitor files and escalate issues requiring attorney involvement; handle highly sensitive issues and materials related to cases timely.
- Assist attorneys with time entry on billing software.
- Prepare and handle tracking and disposition of subpoenas or other requests for information as needed; issue subpoenas as needed.
- E-file documents using state and federal court databases.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- 5+ years of prior legal assistant experience supporting litigators in civil defense litigation, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced law firm environment.
- Strong working knowledge of area of specialization preferred (general liability and/or insurance defense).
- Required experience in Arizona State filing, including E-Filing; Federal E-Filing experience using PACER is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel required.
- Requires critical thinking skills, excellent communication and organizational skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Physical Demands:
- The position is mostly sedentary, requiring sitting for extended periods.
- Occasionally requires standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- May involve bending, stretching, reaching, and other motions during the workday.
- Use of office equipment and computers is required.
- May involve lifting supplies and materials up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Regular requirements include seeing, talking, and hearing.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily located in an indoor office environment with varying noise levels.
- May experience varying degrees of temperature.
- The employee may face interruptions from time to time.
Salary Information:
- Salary range is from $40, to $75, annually.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience.
