Job Title: Child Support Officer V
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed investigations to locate absent parents and verify employment and assets.
- Assist in establishing paternity for children born out-of-wedlock and obtaining court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children.
- Enforce child support orders and respond to customer inquiries.
- Promote the involvement of both parents in their children’s lives and collaborate with state agencies and community organizations to serve Texas families.
- Prepare documents related to legal and administrative actions to establish or enforce child support orders.
- Negotiate lump sum payments and out-of-court settlements with noncustodial parents.
- Monitor child support cases and refer delinquent cases for appropriate enforcement actions.
- Document all case actions using agency tools such as the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES).
- Review and maintain child support virtual files in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository.
- Attend court to assist legal staff as needed and maintain current knowledge of child support policies, procedures, Texas Family Law, and federal regulations.
- Assess child support cases to determine appropriate case action and provide training and technical assistance to office staff.
- Supervise office staff in the absence of the office manager and/or supervisor.
- Explain Child Support Program policies, procedures, and regulations to customers and respond to complex customer inquiries and complaints.
- Serve as Notary Public and perform related work as assigned.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with all agency policies and procedures.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in related fields may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum Experience: Four years of full-time experience in Child Support Program, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant, legal secretary, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist. One year of experience must be as a Child Support Officer or equivalent position in a IV-D agency or private sector.
- Knowledge of investigative practices, child support policies, procedures, and processes.
- Skill in interviewing, negotiating, using a personal computer, basic mathematical computations, handling multiple tasks, and effective communication.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment, provide excellent customer service, and work in person at assigned OAG work location.
- Ability to arrange personal transportation for business-related travel, work more than 40 hours as needed, lift and relocate 30 lbs., and travel up to 15%.
- Typing ability of 35 words per minute (Typing test required at time of interview).
Salary Information:
- Salary (Pay Basis): $4, - $5, (Monthly).
