Job Title: Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney, Litigation
Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney at the organization will engage in various legal activities to promote gender equity and justice. The primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting impact and individual litigation, which involves legal research, fact investigation, client interaction, drafting pleadings and briefs, discovery, motion practice, and court appearances.
- Identifying and developing new cases for litigation through strategic analysis and formulation of relevant legal theories.
- Drafting and reviewing amicus briefs to support ERA's mission.
- Developing partnerships with advocacy groups, legal service providers, and other partners by participating in task forces, coalitions, and conferences.
- Providing legal analysis, technical assistance, and thought leadership on issues related to ERA's mission to various stakeholders including attorneys, government agencies, media, and grassroots advocates.
- Supervising law student interns and occasionally assisting attorney fellows.
- Reviewing public-facing legal training materials and self-help tools.
- Collaborating with ERA's legal and non-legal program staff to develop communication strategies that enhance the impact of ERA's legal work.
- Assisting the development team in drafting grant applications or reports related to the organization's legal work.
- Occasionally traveling for litigation, meetings, conferences, and other professional development activities.
- Engaging in special projects and other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Education and Experience Information:
- The candidate must possess a . degree and have at least one active bar membership.
- A minimum of three years of post-JD litigation experience is required, including drafting case documents and engaging in discovery and motions practice.
- A demonstrated commitment to social, gender, and racial justice is essential, along with a passion for achieving equity and economic justice for women, girls, and LGBTQI+ individuals.
- Candidates should have outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills, with proven ability to work independently and in a team.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, along with the ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
- The candidate should be able to travel to ERA’s headquarters in San Francisco three or four times a year if working remotely and occasionally for litigation and meetings.
- Ideal candidates may have experience in legal advocacy related to ERA's mission, working directly with diverse clients, and policy advocacy or communications work related to litigation.
- The candidate must have valid authorization to work in the United States, as ERA is unable to sponsor work visas or provide relocation assistance.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $106,000 annually. The exact salary and job title (Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney) will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience and expertise.
