Job Title: Docket & Calendar Specialist II
Job Responsibilities:
The Docket & Calendar Specialist II is responsible for a variety of tasks essential to the efficient operation of the Docket & Calendar Department at the law firm. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and processing document submissions for all litigation matters, including Arbitration, NLRB, Workers Compensation Appeals, Bankruptcy, Government Agencies, and Litigation Intellectual Property.
- Handling specialized jurisdiction assignments in particular practice areas as needed.
- Demonstrating strong knowledge of state and federal court rules.
- Researching courts' websites and comprehending court rules, codes, and authorities to respond to inquiries from attorneys and legal staff.
- Distributing calendar and custom reports to attorneys and legal staff.
- Providing troubleshooting support for the Docket & Calendar systems.
- Assisting with training junior staff and learning new technology to assist with the implementation of firm-wide docket systems.
- Exercising discretion and judgment to prioritize document processing within particular matters.
- Assisting with special projects or specialized jurisdiction assignments requiring specific knowledge.
Essential functions of the job include being detail-oriented, a fast learner, able to multi-task, and work independently in a busy department. The candidate should be able to communicate quickly and clearly via email and phone to address inquiries regarding matter calendars and court procedures. Flexibility and adaptability to changing department procedures are also crucial.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required Qualifications: The candidate must have 5-10 years of litigation docket and calendaring experience in a law firm legal docketing department or a clerk's office. Strong knowledge of state and federal rules of civil procedures is essential, along with familiarity with automated, rules-based docket and calendar systems.
- Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of court rules in California, Texas, Illinois, Washington DC, Virginia, and/or Maryland is highly preferred, with a strong preference for knowledge of California court rules. Experience with specialized practice areas such as intellectual property litigation, antitrust litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and multi-district litigation is advantageous.
- Required Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Required Computer/Software Knowledge: Familiarity with CompuLaw or similar docket software is necessary.
- Preferred Computer/Software Knowledge: A typing speed of 45+ wpm is preferred.
Salary Information:
- California: The pay range for this position is to per hour.
- Illinois: The wage range for this position is - per hour. This position is eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. The compensation and benefit information is provided in good faith pursuant to the Illinois Equal Pay Act.
- Washington DC: The pay range for this position is - per hour. Medical, vision, and dental coverage, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners, is available. The compensation and benefit information is provided in good faith pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.
Work Environment:
The Docket & Calendar Specialist II will be based in one of the law firm's local offices but will be allowed to work from home. The position requires coming into the office on an as-needed basis, and overtime may be required when necessary.
