Job Title: Legal Assistant – Family Law
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Assistant in the Family Law Practice Group at the law firm will have a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting the firm's litigators and transactional attorneys. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in drafting Marital Agreements and Pleadings.
- Providing administrative support to lawyers to enhance office effectiveness.
- Typing, proofreading, and editing correspondence, memoranda, agreements, and other legal and business documents from notes, templates, drafts, or dictated text under time-sensitive deadlines.
- Opening new client matters and initiating conflict checks.
- Managing communication with clients, witnesses, and others.
- Monitoring deadlines and managing multiple calendars; setting appointments and meetings.
- Ensuring documents and correspondence are filed correctly.
- Opening files and organizing and maintaining filings, including electronic filing.
- Assisting timekeepers with tracking deadlines and organizing projects.
- Performing general research for timekeepers.
- Answering and directing phone calls; maintaining contact lists.
- Serving as back-up to other assistants.
- Performing other tasks as assigned, including sharing in additional administrative duties.
Education and Experience Information:
- Proven working experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary is preferred.
- A High School Diploma is required, but an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Working knowledge of legal billing and document management software is important.
- The ability to organize, communicate, and prioritize multiple attorney needs throughout the day is essential.
- Strong computer literacy skills are required, as this position requires working proficiently on a computer most of the day.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal) is necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate must be able to sit and/or stand at a desk and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
- The candidate must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Salary Information:
- The pay range starts at $26 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
Additional Information:
- The position is full-time, with expected hours of 40 hours per week.
- Reports to the Legal Support Supervisor.

- The position offers a hybrid work schedule (2 days per week) after completing the first 3 months of employment.
