Job Title: Employee Benefits Associate – Mid to Senior Level – All Offices
Job Responsibilities:
The Employee Benefits Associate will be part of the Employee Benefits law practice within the law firm. The candidate will be responsible for handling various aspects of employee benefits law. Primary responsibilities include:
- Managing private, tax-exempt, and public (governmental) retirement plans, including 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and defined benefit plans.
- Providing M&A Benefits Support, ensuring that benefits integration and compliance are handled effectively during mergers and acquisitions.
- Advising on 409A regulations and executive compensation matters to ensure compliance and optimize compensation structures.
- Overseeing health and welfare plans, including navigating specific health plan laws such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, and HIPAA.
- Engaging in ERISA litigation, representing clients in disputes related to employee benefits.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in employee benefits law, with expertise in areas such as retirement plans, executive compensation, health and welfare plans, and ERISA litigation.
- Prior experience working in a law firm setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to handle matters independently and build a practice.
- Excellent client relationship skills, with the ability to anticipate client needs and provide tailored legal solutions.
- Strong writing and oral advocacy skills are essential.
- A self-starter mindset with practical insight and creativity in problem-solving.
Salary Information:
The annualized salary range for this position in Washington, California, and New York is between $225,000 to $330,000. The actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Additional compensation may include eligibility for bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package. Full-time employees may receive health insurance with an optional Health Savings Account (HSA), short-term and long-term disability insurance, dental and vision care, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care. Additionally, employees are entitled to vacation, sick time, 10 paid holidays each year, and access to an employee assistance program. Attorneys typically take approximately three weeks of vacation annually, subject to client and firm needs. Voluntary benefits programs are also available, including accident insurance, life insurance, disability, long-term care, critical illness, and pet insurance. Commuter and transit programs are offered to support employees’ transportation needs.
