Job Title: Attorney – Employment Law
Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney will be a part of the company's Chicago House Counsel and will handle Employment and Housing Discrimination as well as Directors & Officers litigation. The responsibilities include managing a caseload concerning the company's matters in both State and Federal Courts and administrative agencies within Illinois and Wisconsin. The attorney will be tasked with defending institutional clients and boards of directors against claims involving employment discrimination, housing discrimination, and Directors’ and Officers’ liability. This involves responding to demand letters, handling charges of discrimination at the administrative agency level, and litigating in state and federal courts.
Specific duties encompass:
- Administrative agency work: Preparing position statements, responses, and appearing at hearings and other proceedings.
- Trial work: Conducting and defending depositions, engaging in pre-trial discovery, drafting pleadings, and engaging in motion practice.
- Appellate matters: Researching, briefing, and arguing.
- Representing clients at mediations and negotiating settlements.
- Complying with company litigation guidelines, generating reports, and evaluations on assigned cases.
- Other duties as assigned.
The range of clients to be represented includes small to mid-sized corporations, privately held organizations, non-profits, educational institutions, health industry institutions, cultural institutions, condominium/cooperative/homeowner association boards of directors, financial services institutions, real estate developers and managers, and technology companies.
Education and Experience Information:
- A . Degree from an accredited law school is required.
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar and the . District Courts of Illinois is mandatory.
- Bar Admission to the State Bar of Wisconsin is also required.
- The candidate should have at least 5+ years of demonstrated success in litigating a wide range of employment and labor liability matters.
- Experience is required in litigating before Illinois and Wisconsin State and Federal courts and administrative agencies, including EEOC, IDHR, and Department of Workforce Development.
The successful candidate must possess:
- Extensive knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as Federal and State court and administrative agency rules.
- Advanced and effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for evaluating complex legal liability and damages issues, and developing effective litigation plans and resolution strategies.
- A commitment to effective and strategic communication with clients regarding litigated matters, including adherence to time-sensitive formal reporting requirements.
- Professional, proactive, timely, and consistent communication with clients, insurer’s Claim professionals, and colleagues.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and excel in a high-volume environment.
- Proficiency in utilizing digital case management and communication technology and tools to optimize performance, efficiency, and results.
