Job Title: Director of Business Development – Litigation & Advisory
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Business Development serves as the primary business development and strategic advisor for the firm's Litigation & Advisory practices. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic direction, coaching, planning, and managing the deployment of marketing and business development activities for the Litigation & Advisory practices.
- Supervising, mentoring, and managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the Business Development & Marketing Products team.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive business development strategies, identifying market opportunities, and creating plans to capitalize on them.
- Setting and achieving long-term business goals to ensure the firm's competitiveness and success.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with partners, clients, and stakeholders, focusing on client retention and satisfaction.
- Conducting market research to understand industry trends, client needs, and the competitive landscape, and translating insights into actionable business strategies.
- Demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective presentation of ideas and strategies.
- Establishing and maintaining professional relationships within the legal industry through robust networking skills.
- Possessing in-depth knowledge of the legal industry, including trends, regulations, and the competitive landscape.
- Understanding financial principles, developing budgets, managing financial performance, and achieving revenue targets.
- Exhibiting proven leadership skills to manage and motivate a business development team.
- Demonstrating strong project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Familiarity with business development tools and software, such as CRM systems and data analytics platforms.
- Strong negotiation skills for securing favorable terms and agreements.
- Adapting to changing market conditions and client needs with an innovative mindset.
- Managing continuous communications and interactions with departmental and practice leadership.
- Contributing to marketing and business development training and professional development modules.
- Performing other duties as assigned or required to meet firm goals and objectives.
Education and Experience Information:
Education/Training/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Research, Communications, or a related field is required.
- An advanced degree (., Master’s degree, ., ., or .) is preferred.
Professional Experience:
- A minimum of ten years of demonstrated success in a marketing, research, management, and/or communications-related field, either in professional services (., law, accounting, or consulting) or in a comparable position(s) in the corporate, trade association, or academic sectors, is required.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required.

- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Operational budget analysis and recommendations.
- Conducts analysis of staffing levels and participation in the recruitment process.
- Able to determine and implement change processes to improve workflow efficiencies.
- Process- and service-oriented with strong leadership and project management skills.
- Able to set priorities and delegate in an efficient manner.
Physical Requirements:
- May require travel to other offices as needed.
Salary Information:
The typical pay scale for this position in New York is between $237,600 and $342,100, in Chicago between $211,800 and $304,900, and in Washington, . between $218,100 and $314,000. The actual wage or salary could be lower or higher depending on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and internal pay alignment.
