Job Title: Advocate for Injured Employees (Ombudsman IV) - Temporary
Job Responsibilities:
The Advocate for Injured Employees, serving as an ombudsman, plays a crucial role in assisting and educating injured employees in Texas. The position involves providing one-on-one support throughout the dispute resolution process. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting injured employees in mediations and formal hearings and providing routine updates on the status of their claims.
- Educating employees about the workers' compensation dispute process and relevant laws and rules.
- Assisting with referrals to social services through other state agencies.
- Providing help in filing claims and obtaining supporting documentation from medical professionals.
- Contacting insurance carriers and medical providers to identify and resolve disputes.
- Documenting customer interactions in a computer system and answering general customer service questions.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
This role requires working under limited supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Education and Experience Information:
- A graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
- A minimum of three years of full-time experience in claims management, insurance, casework, law office (paralegal/legal assistant), healthcare, social work, or workers' compensation is necessary.
- Holding a current law license requires surrender upon hire.
Substitutions for education and experience may be made on a year-for-year basis as relevant to the position requirements.
Preferences for candidates include:
- Experience with medical terminology, rehabilitation, and disabilities/impairments.
- Skills in public speaking, such as training, outreach, or community speaking.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish (oral and written).
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Skills in conflict resolution, assisting the public, problem-solving, interpreting laws and regulations, data entry, and use of correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- The ability to travel, multitask, meet deadlines, establish effective working relationships, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Salary Information:
The position offers a salary of $5, monthly, classified under the State Job Code 3665, Salary Admin Plan B, Grade 23. The position is exempt from overtime.
Additional Information:
This temporary position lasts one year from the date of hire, with the potential to transition to regular employment based on performance and agency needs. The role requires 40 standard hours per week, with a travel requirement of 25% of the time.
