Job Title: Legal Assistant BI/UM
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with legal work reviewed and approved by the supervising attorney, including research, contract administration, document preparation, and trial preparation.
- Provide support for the investigative process of a trial by gathering documents and information for legal assignments.
- Conduct research and analyze documents to prepare reports of findings and formulate alternatives.
- Evaluate the risk of alternatives, calculate potential liability costs, and assess benefits and drawbacks.
- Assist in preparing drafts of legal documents such as discovery responses, affidavits, motions, corporate minutes, contracts, and other legal documents.
- File documents with regulatory authorities, courts, and other tribunals, monitor status, and distribute copies.
- Prepare presentations and briefing material on topics relevant to the company’s business.
- Manage and maintain attorneys' files per the attorney's specifications.
- Handle administrative tasks including calendar responsibilities, check writing, requesting, copying, and handling mail.
- Act as a liaison between attorney and outside counsel in the exchange of information.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve issues and identify appropriate issues for escalation.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
Education and Experience Information:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
- 1 year of experience in legal support or related experience, including multi-tasking in a fast-paced and complex business environment.
- Intermediate knowledge of the function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products required.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively in person, by e-mail, and telephone; follow instructions from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff; provide reports with professional courtesy and tact.
- Strong ability to focus on details, demonstrate accuracy, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience assisting attorneys in handling discovery, conducting legal research, drafting motions, and trial preparation for a personal injury insurance defense law firm or in-house counsel in the state of California is a plus.
- Notary Public and Bachelor’s Degree are advantageous.
- US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner is a plus.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $51, - $92,.
- Compensation is determined based on experience and market data of the position, and may vary by location.
- Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance, at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
