Paralegal/Legal Assistant Duties: Manage designated attorney's calendar and serve as the first point of contact for people outside the firm. Review the designated attorney's email in a timely manner when one designated attorney is not at the desk (on a typical day this will mean at least hourly), including forwarding emails to pertinent attorneys in the office, saving emails and attachments to the DMS, and tracking matters on which follow-up is necessary. For all cases where we designate as the staff person in charge, will pull e-filings from notifications, save them to the DMS, docket deadlines for responsive documents, and timely distribute filings to the relevant attorneys upon arrival. Serve as a receptionist: answer the phone, greet and take care of clients and other visitors to the firm, and manage conference spaces. Handle administrative duties as assigned, including timekeeping, billing, both keeping track of and entering your own, and possibly entering other attorneys. Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.

Qualifications: A background in both state and federal courts would be very useful, but not necessary. Knowledge in preparing Appellate and 8th Circuit Briefs (Table of Contents, Table of Authorities and Appendices) would be very useful. Knowledge of both EDMS and CM-ECF electronic filing would be very useful. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Be proficient in legal secretarial skills, such as dictation, word processing speed, proofreading, and accuracy, the DMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe (), filing documents in state (EDMS) and federal courts (CM-ECF), appellate and 8th Circuit, etc. Be proficient in paralegal skills, including managing and organizing incoming and outgoing discovery documents, client documents, transcripts, and other evidentiary materials for all cases to which you are assigned. Be proficient with and effectively use key technologies for visual presentation, document production and review (including making emails and attachments searchable/ready for production or review, Bates labeling, etc.). Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Ability to multi-task. Overtime frequently required. Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
