Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide litigation support to the department and attorneys in collaborative efforts to advance cases.
- Prepare and electronically file litigation documents with various courts.
- Draft and send various outgoing letters.
- Maintain documents within document storage software.
- Make and receive daily phone calls from clients, constables, court personnel, taxpayers, and others.
- Correspond daily via email with clients, constables, court personnel, taxpayers, and others.
- Maintain and update databases, including an e-cabinet system and the firm's custom case management system.
- Follow up regularly on pending and existing cases.
- Track correspondence sent, received, or requiring further action in the case management system.
- Meet daily and weekly deadlines related to various aspects of the litigation process, including the collection of amounts owed on cases.
- Pick up documents and evidence from tax offices and other locations.
- Perform additional clerical or administrative duties as needed or assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- Minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required; a bachelor's degree or being in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- At least one year of experience in an office setting is required.
- Experience working in a collection law firm is preferred.
- Three years of professional work experience is preferred.
- Previous experience in a law office with a general understanding of the litigation process is preferred.
- Previous experience or working knowledge of Texas E-Filing procedures, skip-tracing techniques, and/or utilization of E-Cabinet systems is preferred.

Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to walk, sit, speak, and hear.
- Required to stand, use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
- May be required to stoop, kneel, or crouch on occasion.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to travel by air or car.
Salary Information:
- Starting pay is $16 per hour.
