Position Overview:
- Collaborate with community organizers and tenant associations to build power within the NYC housing movement
- Challenge landlords, lenders, and government agencies through legal representation, research, and training
- Develop campaigns, train organizers and community leaders, draft legislation and policy proposals, lobby elected officials, participate in tenant meetings, and conduct legal clinics
Responsibilities:
- Regular evening and some weekend meetings to meet clients where they are
- Commitment to economic and racial justice and the housing justice movement in New York City
- Passion for working with community organizers and developing creative lawyering strategies to support tenant organizing
- Eager to work with a diverse client base on individual and group litigation
Requirements:
- Professional or personal experience with New York City housing law and the housing justice movement
- JD and admission (or pending admission) to the New York State Bar
- Experience with community organizing or supporting organizing campaigns
- Experience working with diverse communities and across lines of difference
- Professional competency in a second language commonly spoken by NYC tenants, including Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Arabic, or Bangla
Expected Salary Range: $78,290 to $92,600, depending on experience and qualifications.
