Billing Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
The Billing Specialist is primarily tasked with the accurate billing of client invoices adhering to the specific formats required by clients. The role involves various day-to-day billing activities which include printing prebills and/or final bills for attorney review. The Billing Specialist is responsible for researching and addressing billing queries from attorneys, Legal Practice Assistants, and clients. Additionally, the role involves inputting, updating, and mailing invoices through the accounting system and managing client alternate fee arrangements.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Editing prebills to facilitate time and disbursement transfers, time splits, account transfers, time adjustments, and disbursement adjustments.
- Printing, sorting, and distributing prebills to billing attorneys and forwarding drafts and/or final computerized invoices for further edits.
- Maintaining accurate and current client billing addresses.
- Entering necessary billing exemptions by the billing cutoff date and maintaining status through month-end.
- Monitoring and managing approval levels for write-offs and monthly billing exemptions.
- Accurately and efficiently entering alternate rates into the computer system.
- Providing requested billing statistics to attorneys and legal support staff, utilizing and formatting Excel spreadsheets when needed.
- Effectively managing communication with attorneys to ensure billing deadlines are met.
- Submitting, processing, and tracking invoices while resolving billing issues via electronic and web-based systems.
- Communicating effectively during monthly meetings with the billing manager to provide updates on timekeepers' Work in Progress and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Promptly identifying and responding to internal and external client inquiries and seeking feedback or follow-up as appropriate.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates should possess a college degree, although any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential duties of the position will be considered. A minimum of three years of law firm billing experience is required, with previous experience with Aderant/CMS being strongly preferred.
Salary Information:
Compensation for the Billing Specialist position is contingent upon several factors, including position, location, education, training, and experience. The hiring salary range is between $50, and $70,.
