Job Title: Manager, Legal Recruiting
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Recruiting and Associate Relations Manager is tasked with the comprehensive administration of the department, focusing on legal recruiting for lateral attorneys, judicial clerks, and summer associates, as well as managing associate relations in the Washington, DC office. The Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Partnering with Managing Partners, Practice Group Leaders, and DC Recruitment Partners to assess hiring needs and coordinate the hiring process for lateral attorneys, judicial law clerks, and summer associates. This process involves candidate screening, interview scheduling, and liaising with practice group leaders concerning interview feedback and offer decisions.
- Coordinating conflict clearance and background checks for summer associates and lateral attorneys.
- Acting as a liaison with search firms engaged to support the DC office's hiring needs.
- Managing the summer associate recruiting process and all aspects of the summer associate program, including communication, event planning, mentor assignments, assignment coordinators, and training.
- Maintaining regular correspondence with Legal Recruiting Departments at other law firms and working directly with career services offices at law schools to conduct presentations and suggest law student group sponsorship opportunities.
- Collaboratively handling personnel issues and crisis management with DC Recruitment Partners, DC Director of Administration, and DC Human Resources Manager.
- Assisting with the development, implementation, updates, and management of hiring policies and procedures.
- Producing various recruiting reports, including monthly, year-end, and ad hoc reports.
- Overseeing the production of external-facing recruitment materials and internal records, statistics, and reports for the DC office.
- Collaborating with the US recruiting team and preferred vendors for ordering branded swag for on-campus giveaways and gifts.
- Managing the attorney recruitment database (viRecruit) to ensure accurate candidate tracking and record-keeping.
- Initiating revisions to the firm's careers webpage to reflect changes in the DC office's recruiting initiatives.
- Supporting inclusive hiring practices and working with the Chair of the Inclusion Committee.
- Maintaining communication with the NY Senior Director of Legal Recruiting.
- Working with recruitment managers and staff in other offices to develop and promote firm-wide recruiting initiatives.
- Maintaining membership with the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) and WALRAA to stay updated on trends in legal industry recruitment.
- Preparing, updating, and tracking the DC recruiting budget, reviewing and approving invoices related to recruiting and mentoring programs, and ensuring compliance with budget and variance reports.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in legal or campus recruitment, preferably within a professional services or Big Law firm.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment.
- Capability to work well under pressure and handle confidential material with discretion.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and monitor budgets effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of legal recruiting software is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player and maintain a self-motivated, energetic, flexible, and highly organized approach.
- Some travel is required.
- Frequent interaction with attorneys, support staff, law school placement offices, search firms, and other US offices.
Salary Information:
The estimated salary range for the Manager, Legal Recruiting position is between $145,000 and $160,000. Compensation decisions within this range are dependent on various factors, including the individual's skills, experience, and qualifications. Additionally, the law firm offers a competitive compensation package that includes base pay and a discretionary year-end bonus for eligible employees.
