Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The role of a Legal Assistant at the State Public Defender's Office involves supporting attorneys in providing comprehensive legal representation to clients involved in criminal, juvenile, or child protection cases. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the review, preparation, and processing of legal documents and discovery materials.
- Generating motions, memoranda, and pleadings using the case management system (CMS).
- Providing document management support for meetings, hearings, and trials.
- Entering and reviewing data in the CMS in accordance with established guidelines.
- Assisting with the preparation of trial exhibits.
- Communicating with clients and court personnel.
- Filing documents electronically.
- Tracking personal time and tasks within the CMS.
- Supporting attorneys with administrative tasks and projects as needed.
- Maintaining confidentiality of client information and adhering to ethical standards.
- Organizing electronic case files in the CMS.
- Managing communications, including answering phones, sending emails, and greeting clients in the office.
- Proficient use of CMS, legal, and administrative software and platforms.
- Calendaring events, deadlines, and scheduling appointments.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates are expected to have between one to five years of experience in the legal field related to the aforementioned job responsibilities, or equivalent experience performing standard administrative tasks such as preparing correspondence or reports, filing, data entry, and proficient use of electronic management information systems and word processing software. Alternatively, an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is also acceptable. Additional qualifications include:
- Exceptional administrative skills, including organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
- Clear and professional communication abilities.
Salary Information:
The position is full-time (40 hours per week) with an annual salary ranging from $52,000 to $73,000, depending on experience.
