Job Title:
Claims Examiner or Associate Claims Examiner - Personal Lines Claims
Experience Information:
- 2+ years of relevant experience for Associate Claims Examiner position
- 7+ years of relevant experience for Claims Examiner position
- Experience in handling general liability/casualty/excess matters
- Prior experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, or in a similar role
- Personal lines experience is a plus
- Multi-jurisdictional knowledge is a plus
- Advanced degrees or JD are a plus
Essential Functions:
- Confirm coverage for claims by reviewing first notice of loss, policy language, and available systems
- Prepare initial position letters to policyholders, such as disclaimers and reservation of rights
- Conduct thorough and focused investigations of claims, including securing facts, statements, and documents
- Identify joint tortfeasors and witnesses, and conduct scene investigations
- Post, review, and maintain reserves based on liability and damage evaluation
- Proactively manage claims towards final disposition through effective diary, direction to defense counsel, and analysis and strategy leading to settlement or trial
- Document all file activity in claim notes
- Communicate regularly with policyholders, underwriting, and actuary through comprehensive and concise authority requests, reinsurance reports, and coverage position letters
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide prompt responses to phone and email inquiries from both internal and external parties
- Adhere to established claim service promises
- Complete special projects as assigned
- Engage in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional and personal development
- Travel as needed for mediations and court hearings

- Technical knowledge of insurance coverage, negligence law, and claim evaluation
