K&L Gates, a leading global law firm, is seeking a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join our dynamic Information Technology Department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and implement the technology and analytical aspects of our firm's data function, working with a high-performing team of Data Architects, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts.

Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a high-performing data team to support and enhance business decision capabilities
• Collaborate with firm leadership and key stakeholders to define the need, vision, strategy, and roadmap for data initiatives
• Develop data-driven strategies to enhance operations, improve decision-making, optimize AI solutions, and boost business efficiency
• Design and enhance the firm's data infrastructure to be modern, flexible, and of industry-leading quality
• Supervise the creation and maintenance of reliable data pipelines and workflows
• Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy protocols
• Participate in the requirements gathering process and document business requirements
• Design and implement data insight products and services
• Act as the main liaison between business units and technical teams
• Drive innovation by incorporating AI and machine learning into data-first solutions
• Collaborate with other elements of the firm's data function
• Effectively communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Serve as a technical owner of solutions
• Advocate for solutions that prioritize system stability, reliability, and scalability
• Own the data discovery process
• Serve as the technical data owner for all firm data assets
• Design the data platform to create a unified data ecosystem
• Facilitate the enforcement of data governance
• Develop automated data processing and analytics pipelines
• Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and adherence to enterprise processes within the team
• Participate in the change control process
• Define team roles and responsibilities
• Recruit, train, and mentor a diverse data science team
• Serve as a direct supervisor
• Champion career advancement and professional development
• Serve on the Enterprise Applications Department Management team
• Supervise daily activities of direct reports
• Participate in hiring processes and employee evaluations
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in data science or data engineering/architecture roles
• 5+ years of experience in a professional service organization
• Project management experience
• Experience managing large-scale data projects
• Knowledge of global data handling and regulatory standards
• Experience working with data modeling tools
• Deep knowledge of the legal industry
• Familiarity with cloud technologies
• Ability to influence and collaborate with multiple departments
• Certifications in Data Science/Engineering
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a team and collaborate with remote team members
• Willingness to travel
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other firm applications
• Ability to work in an office or remote setting
