Job Title: Child Support Officer II-III
Job Responsibilities:
Child Support Officers (CSOs) play a critical role in the mission of the **Members Only**’s Child Support Division. Their primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting detailed investigations to locate absent parents and verify employment and assets.
- Assisting in establishing paternity for children born out-of-wedlock and obtaining court orders for financial support and health care coverage.
- Enforcing child support orders and initiating case closure when appropriate.
- Preparing documents related to legal and administrative actions for the establishment or enforcement of child support orders.
- Negotiating lump sum payments from noncustodial parents who owe past due child/medical support.
- Engaging in out-of-court settlements and agreements with parties (specific to CSO II).
- Monitoring child support cases and referring delinquent cases for enforcement actions.
- Documenting all actions taken using agency tools such as the Children Are My Priority System (ChAMP) and maintaining virtual files for accuracy.
- Attending court to assist legal staff as required.
- Conducting research on case information using computer systems including ChAMP.
- Maintaining updated knowledge of child support policies, Texas Family Law, and federal regulations.
- Explaining Child Support Program policies to customers and responding to inquiries and complaints.
- Evaluating the validity of complaints against the IV-D program impartially.
- Serving as a Notary Public and performing related work as assigned.
- Ensuring the security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Complying with all agency policies and procedures, especially those related to ethics and integrity.
Education and Experience Information:
Child Support Officer (CSO) II:
- Education: High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred; related experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis in fields such as child support programs, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant roles, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist.
- Skills: Proficiency in interviewing, negotiating, using personal computers for word-processing and data entry, basic mathematical computations, handling multiple tasks, and effective communication.
- Abilities: Positive reception of feedback, cooperative work in a professional environment, excellent customer service, in-person work at designated OAG locations, arrangement of personal transportation for business travel, compliance with FLSA, lifting and relocating 30 lbs, and traveling up to 25%.
- Typing requirement: 35 words per minute (typing test required at interview).
Child Support Officer (CSO) III:
- All qualifications of a CSO II.
- Experience: One year of full-time experience in related fields such as child support programs, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant roles, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university.
- Knowledge: Investigative practices and techniques.
- Language: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
Salary Information:
- Salary is administratively planned under Plan B, Grade 15 13.
- The monthly pay ranges from $3, to $4,.
- The position is non-exempt from overtime.
