Job Responsibilities
The litigation paralegal will be responsible for providing support to the legal department at the company. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Co-General Counsel and corporate counsels in a fast-paced legal environment.
- Preparing objections and responses to written discovery requests.
- Reviewing and analyzing deposition transcripts.
- Assisting both in-house and outside counsel with trial preparation and trial proceedings.
- Managing projects related to the legal department as assigned by attorneys.
- Managing and tracking litigation with outside counsel.
- Conducting the initial review and analysis of contract proposals from vendors and corporate partners; drafting new contracts using the company's general contract forms; updating the contract management database with new executed contracts; and following up on deadlines related to the expiration of contracts.
- Interacting with all departments to ensure conformity and consistency in the application of business and legal policies and practices.
- Using independent judgment to evaluate and assess legal issues.
- Interfacing with outside counsel on litigation, corporate, and intellectual property matters.
- Managing corporate records and books.
- Drafting reports, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, memoranda, and documents related to transactional, compliance, corporate, and/or litigation matters.
- Drafting legal correspondence including cease-and-desist letters and termination of contract letters.
- Responding to and gathering documents for subpoenas.
- Ensuring filings on all corporate entities to maintain their good standing.
Education and Experience Information
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Paralegal certification and/or equivalent experience.
- At least five (5) years of paralegal or similar experience with a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department, including significant experience in managing corporate structures and compliance.
- Experience in litigation involving general liability, commercial, and labor and employment law claims and lawsuits.
- Experience preparing objections and responses to written discovery requests, reviewing and analyzing deposition transcripts, and trial preparation.
- Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
Performance Requirements
The candidate must have:
- Excellent experience in the use of software and programs, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, DocuSign, contracts management software, practice management software, document management software, project management software, and cloud/internet-based collaboration software such as LawVu.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to draft and review legal documents, analyze legal advice, and apply it to business needs.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
- Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters.
- Initiative to address problems and make continuous process improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a dynamic and team-oriented attitude.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
