Job Title: Intake Paralegal - Immigration Law
Job Responsibilities:
The intake paralegal will work within the immigration law unit of the organization, which is dedicated to assisting clients with humanitarian immigration matters, such as VAWA petitions, U visas, T visas, SIJS, and asylum claims. Under the supervision of organization attorneys, the intake paralegal will perform the following duties:
- Interview prospective clients to assess their eligibility for legal assistance.
- Gather necessary client documents and evidence to support clients' claims for immigration relief.
- Record and manage client information using the organization's computerized record-keeping system.
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled unit meetings.
- Assist attorneys with client communications, including providing Spanish-English interpretation and translation services.
- Provide advice or make referrals to other resources when appropriate.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the intake paralegal position should meet the following qualifications:
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
- A college degree and/or paralegal certificate is preferred.
- Ability to identify and analyze legal and other related problems.
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment where clients often require immediate support.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting is essential.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to working with low-income communities.
Salary Information:
The starting salary for the intake paralegal position is $53,140 per year. The salary is based on a union scale and may be adjusted upward depending on the candidate's experience. The organization offers a very generous benefits package, which includes:
