Job Title: Commercial Litigation Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
The Commercial Litigation Paralegal at the law firm will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys through various stages of litigation. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys in fact investigation, conducting witness interviews, drafting pleadings and correspondence, and performing legal research.
- Preparing and producing documents, managing databases, and handling docketing/case management.
- Providing overall client service and acting as a liaison between clients, colleagues, and experts to ensure timely communication of case information and production of materials.
- Developing technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and maintaining project folders/electronic files.
- Organizing and managing files independently or delegating tasks to a Paralegal Assistant.
- Preparing materials for depositions, hearings, trials, and related proceedings, and attending these if necessary.
- Engaging in pre-trial preparation and attending trials.
- Drafting pleadings and discovery documents.
- Coordinating the filing of pleadings/documents and arranging for service.
- Collecting and summarizing medical and other records.
- Assisting with calendaring/docketing and working with attorneys in multiple offices.
- Staying informed of developments in the Commercial Litigation practice areas and the Paralegal industry.
- Attending and participating in internal Continuing Legal Education sessions (CLEs).
- Anticipating attorney needs and serving as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant or more junior Paralegal as needed.
- Meeting an annual billable hour target of 1500.
- Performing other duties as required.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a minimum of 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in commercial litigation. Experience in trial preparation and attendance is necessary. Relativity experience is preferred. Educationally, a bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field is preferred.
Salary Information:
Compensation for the Commercial Litigation Paralegal position varies based on skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. The expected salary ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $84,000 - $112,000
- State of Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- State of Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- State of Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- State Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- State of Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- State of New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- State of Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
These salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, which is non-guaranteed and dependent on individual and firm performance.
