Associate Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Counsel will be responsible for defending lawsuits filed in New York courts and managing other first-party insurance defense cases. Key responsibilities include:
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery. This includes depositions/examinations before trial, examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing all matters assigned, as applicable.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Juris Doctor degree is required.
- Admission to the New York Bar is required.
- Candidates must have between 2 to 6+ years of experience in litigation, specifically in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
- Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in New York and meet continuing legal education (CLE) requirements.
- Candidates should be able to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
- The ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner is essential.
- Candidates must be capable of following complex instructions, resolving conflicts, and have strong organizational skills, priority setting, and multi-tasking abilities.
- The ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in civil litigation.
- Experience in insurance defense-related litigation.
- Professional communication skills, both in person and via telephone or written correspondence/email.
Salary Information:
The annual salary for this position ranges from $118, to $186,. This range serves as a general guideline, with the final salary being determined by factors including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education, training, work location, and market and business considerations.
Additional Information:
