The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Trial Legal Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including transcribing dictation, typing and proofreading legal documents, and filing documents in both state and federal courts. This role also involves screening telephone calls, maintaining calendars and deadline reminder systems, and billing clients for work performed.

The successful candidate will possess a high level of technical competency in Microsoft Office and other job-related software, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize tasks under strict time constraints. The ability to proofread documents for grammatical, typographical, and spelling errors is also essential.

Key Responsibilities:

- Operate a computer with multiple applications
- Transcribe dictation
- Type and proofread correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents
- Electronically file legal case documents in State and Federal Courts
- Screen telephone calls and record messages
- Read, sort, and date incoming mail
- Establish and maintain calendar and deadline reminder systems
- Open new files, request conflict of interest checks, and maintain files
- Record work to be billed to clients
- Possess knowledge of key clients and contacts
- Receive clients and visitors
- Make appointments and assist with travel arrangements for attorneys
- Prioritize tasks
- Work closely with administrative support staff
- Maintain a team orientation towards work
- Coordinate with support departments and perform overload typing, filing, photocopying, faxing, or reception relief as needed
- Perform other related duties as requested

Preferred Qualifications:

- Ability to read and write in order to proofread and edit legal documents
- Ability to transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and reports at a speed of 70 .
- High level of technical competency in Microsoft Office and other job-related software
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks under strict time constraints
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain discretion and confidentiality

Education:

- High school diploma required, Associate certificate or college degree preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years on-the-job experience in a law office

Working Conditions:

- Work may occasionally require more than 35-40 hours per week
- Work may require irregular hours
- High level of mental effort and strain while producing a high volume of work
- Extensive time spent typing and looking at computer monitors
