Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
The Legal Assistant is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the law firm and supporting the legal team. Key duties include performing administrative tasks such as scheduling calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, and managing logistics. The role requires maintaining pleadings and discovery indexes, organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices, and implementing administrative processes to enhance workflow efficiency. The Legal Assistant is also responsible for collecting, examining, and organizing evidence and legal documents for attorney review and case preparation. Drafting and proofreading correspondence and legal documents, such as pleadings and contracts, are essential functions. Additionally, the position involves researching regulations, laws, and legal articles to support the preparation of reports, case files, and legal advice. Managing client billing, communicating with clients and witnesses, and maintaining documents in paper or electronic filing systems are also part of the responsibilities. Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED). An associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor's degree is preferred. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are also preferred. The position requires at least two years of experience as an administrative assistant, legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department. Experience in Personal Injury, Workers' Compensation, Premises, or other injury-related practice areas is preferred. Candidates must possess the ability to multitask, prioritize, handle a fast-paced environment, and manage workload with minimal supervision. Strong written and communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in calendar depositions, mediation, and hearings. Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, and procedures is required. Candidates must be highly organized, able to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and have strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail. Extensive computer and database expertise, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing at least 35 words per minute, is essential.
