Job Title: Legal Assistant
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for bankruptcy clients during the intake and document-gathering phase, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
- Assist clients in understanding the required documents and guide them on how to submit these documents properly.
- Regularly and promptly follow up with clients via phone, email, or text to ensure timely submission of documents, maintaining a proactive approach to communication.
- Track client progress using internal systems to ensure all necessary documents are collected and organized before the file is transitioned for petition drafting.
- Review client documents for basic completeness and organize them in the law firm's document management system to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
- Answer incoming calls professionally, providing assistance or transferring calls as appropriate to maintain efficient communication.
- Maintain clear and timely communication logs and notes for all client interactions to ensure seamless follow-up and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate closely with the bankruptcy paralegal to transition complete files for drafting, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and organized.
- Provide friendly and helpful service that builds trust and confidence with clients, many of whom may be experiencing stress or overwhelm due to their financial situation.
Education and Experience Information:
- Prior experience in a legal, administrative, or client services role is preferred, indicating a familiarity with the legal environment and client interaction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as the role demands professionalism and likability to effectively engage with clients.
- Proficiency in document management systems is essential, with experience in bankruptcy software considered a plus.
- Comfort with office technology, including phone systems, email platforms, and cloud storage, is necessary to fulfill the role effectively.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus but not required, potentially enhancing communication with a diverse client base.
