Job Title: Senior Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide witness management assistance before, during, and after trial, including working directly with fact witnesses and supporting their court appearances, pre-trial conferences, and grand jury appearances.
- Handle inquiries from fact witnesses regarding court appearances, pre-trial conferences, grand jury appearances, and expense reimbursement, and obtain necessary information for witness travel and reimbursements.
- Contact fact witnesses about travel arrangements, appearance schedules, and special needs, and determine when to notify the Assistant . Attorney of special circumstances.
- Confer with Assistant . Attorneys about witness appearances and special circumstances, complete and submit documentation for special authorizations, and obtain prior approvals for travel arrangements.
- Ensure all travel documents and appearance schedules are provided to witnesses, and arrange travel and lodging according to Department of Justice and USAO policies.
- Prepare and submit documentation for witness reimbursement, such as vouchers, and provide information on pending and completed vouchers, while reconciling Government Travel Accounts.
- Coordinate with the Court, Probation, Pretrial, . Marshals Service, investigative agencies, and other counterparts as needed.
- Complete recurring documents according to style and format rules, compose letters from templates requiring legal procedure knowledge, and maintain a good working knowledge of legal procedures relevant to fact witness laws and regulations.
- Perform general office procedures for witness management, including establishing and maintaining files, documents, databases, and calendars of witness appearances, tracking hearings, trial dates, grand jury, and scheduling conferences, and performing other administrative and logistical duties as required.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization, requiring US Citizenship.
- Requires a paralegal certificate, JD, attendance at an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed, or equivalent legal training or experience. Equivalent education may be substituted.
- At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or related project experience is required, with trial experience being very helpful.
- At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
- Requires strong knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources, excellent written and oral communication skills, and thorough knowledge of legal research tools like LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Must be familiar with computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems, as well as ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
