Court Monitor
Job Responsibilities
The Court Monitor position involves several crucial duties aimed at ensuring the accurate capturing and documentation of court proceedings within the **Members Only**. The essential responsibilities include:
- Conducting tests on digital recording equipment prior to court proceedings to ensure operational status.
- Operating digital recording equipment to capture a verbatim record of court proceedings.
- Confidently monitoring proceedings through the use of headphones to ensure recording accuracy.
- Annotating the record with log notes entered directly into the system.
- Marking exhibits during court proceedings and submitting them to the Clerk of Court.
- Retaining all court paperwork, including case information sheets, exhibit lists, and witness lists, and scanning these to a supervisor. If a scanner is unavailable, organizing paperwork by week to provide to a supervisor during court visits.
- Performing any additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of related legal/court work experience are required.
- An Associate Degree or higher may substitute for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Candidates must have computer and word processing experience and the ability to operate digital recording equipment.
- The ability to maintain concentration and sit in a courtroom for extended periods is necessary.
- Dependable transportation is required, as the role may involve occasional travel to courthouses throughout the circuit.
- Punctuality and avoidance of excessive absences are mandatory.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of the legal system and court proceedings.
- Understanding of grammatical rules, spelling, and language use.
- Ability to operate digital recording equipment to capture a verbatim record of court proceedings, annotate recordings, and mark exhibits during court proceedings. Specific training on the organization's digital recording equipment and courtroom procedures will be provided.
- Competence in communicating courteously and effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, judges, attorneys, and the general public.
- Ability to maintain concentration and sit in a courtroom for extended periods.
- Capability to maintain effective working relationships with judicial staff, court personnel, and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications
Desirable (Preferred) Requirements (Education and/or Experience)
- Training and/or experience in legal terminology and court procedures, and legal practices such as those gained by paralegals, legal secretaries, and legal assistants.
- Experience working in a court or legal setting.
Salary Information
The salary for the Court Monitor position is $41, annually.
